TMOC Rocker Cover Racing Events
General Guidelines, Rules & Information
There is no set minimum weight for a racer but do not exceed the maximum weight limit stated in the specifications below.
It is important to ensure that the rocker cover wheels are aligned so it will be able to run in a straight line without bumping or crashing out by hitting the side barriers for the duration of the race.
The ramp is made up of three sections of 2.4m ply. The overall length of the ramp is 7.2m long x 2 x 270mm wide tracks with 65mm high side barriers to prevent collisions [see above picture]. At the end of the ramp is a cushioned bump stop to arrest the cars.
Racing format is a Blind Draw Double Elimination Tournament. The racers compete in a bracket where every racer must lose two times to be eliminated from the competition.
Rocker Cover Build Specifications
- The main body of the rocker cover racer must be sourced from a BMC A series engine.
- Wheels – The placement of all wheels must not exceed the length and width specifications of the racer stated below.
There is no restriction on the number of wheels. The maximum wheel diameter allowed is 120mm. - Length – The maximum overall racer length is 350mm.
- Width – The maximum overall width is 200mm. Note: the track is only 270mm wide.
- Height – No height restrictions apply.
- Weight – The maximum gross weight is 3.500kg. If racers are presented for racing weighing more than 3.500kg the owner can either reduce the weight of the racer or default from the event.
- Propulsion – The racer must be propelled by gravity alone, with no assistance from internal combustion engines or electric motors, rubber bands or wind.
Racing Format – Blind Draw Double Elimination
- Racers will be randomly blind drawn, given a number, and placed in the Winner’s bracket in the order they are drawn.
- Racers will compete in the order they are placed in the bracket.
- The winner of each race moves on to the next round and remains in the Winners bracket, while the first-time loser drops down into the Losers bracket.
- Once in the Losers bracket, the winning racer advances to the next round while remaining in the Losers bracket. The second-time loser is eliminated.
- The tournament continues until there is only one racer left, THE WINNER, that hasn’t lost two races.
Starting & Racing Rules
- Prior to the start, all racers will be inspected to ensure they conform to the above specifications. Those racers that do not comply must be altered prior to the start of the competition or they will be default from the event.
- Each competitor is responsible for placing and aligning their own racer on the starting grid.
- The starting system is the same as that seen at a drag strip. A race official will start each race by controlling the ‘Christmas Tree’.
- The Red lights turn off from left to right. The race is live once all of the Red lights disappear, only then can each competitor press their start buttons to release their racers. The start button is located at the top of the ramp.
- The system is controlled by electronics. If you false start you will get a Red light. On the first false start the race will be rerun, but a second false start by the same competitor will result in disqualification.
- If a racer crashes into the barrier and does not complete the run they will be given one second chance.
- The electronic system will record the first racer to cross the finish line by lighting up a Green light of the winners lane.
Notes
- Each racer is guaranteed a minimum of two runs.
- A quick reaction when the last red Christmas tree light goes out will be an advantage at the start.
- The first racer to cross the finish line in each run is the heat winner and gets a Green light.
The winner remains in the Winners bracket while the loser drops down into the Losers bracket.
- If a competitor false starts or their racer crashes into the ramp barrier and does not finish they are given one second chance and if repeated they are disqualified.
